Sylheti - A dialect of Bengali spoken in Barak Valley and parts of Bangladesh.

Sylheti (native name সিলটী Silôţi; Bengali name সিলেটী Sileţi) is the language of Sylhet, the north-eastern region of Bangladesh, and also spoken in parts of the North-East Indian states of Assam (the Barak valley) and Tripura (the North Tripura district). It is also spoken by a significant population in the other north-eastern states of India. Sylheti is considered a dialect of Bengali (Bangla).

How to reach Cachar

The district of Cachar or more specifically its headquarter Silchar plays an important role in the economy of this region. Besides being the commercial hub of this region, it is also the gateway to several other states of North-East India like Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura. However its demography does make access to it from other parts of the country difficult. Never the less the place is connected to the rest of India by all three modes viz. road, train & air.

Major Colleges and Schools of Barak Valley

The valley is one of the most lagging regions in the nation in terms of education and the literacy rate is quite low. This is mainly due to the poor economic condition of the region, lack of infrastructure and political negligence. Never the less the valley boasts of having a few premiere institutes of higher education. Institutes of national importance like National Institute of Technology or NIT, Silchar Medical College and Assam University are located at Silchar of Cachar district. There is a Polytechnic at Silchar and a ITI at Srikona of Cachar district.
