How to reach Cachar
The district of Cachar or more specifically its headquarter Silchar plays an important role in the economy of this region. Besides being the commercial hub of this region, it is also the gateway to several other states of North-East India like Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura. However its demography does make access to it from other parts of the country difficult. Never the less the place is connected to the rest of India by all three modes viz. road, train & air.

Road Way:-
NH44 connects it with Guwahati via Jowai-Shillong. The main modes of travel are the daily bus service run by both Government(ASTC) and private agencies like Jagannath Travels, Capital Travels, Network Travels etc. and also Tata Sumo service run mainly by private agencies.
Apart from this, the Jawai-Badarpur road also connects Mizoram,Tripura and parts of Manipur. The Silchar-Imphal road connects Cachar with Manipur via Lakhipur, Jiribam, Nongbah. The Silchar-Haflong road connects Haflong, Lumding and other parts of Assam.
Rail Way:-
The railway network of this region was built by the British in the early 1900. It was earlier used mainly to transport tea and coal from this part of the country. Until the early part of last decade, there used to be metre-gauge line between Guwahati and Silchar. However now metre gauge line exists only between Cachar and Lumding. As of the day, this article is being written work is still in progress for the broad gauge line between Silchar and Lumding. The Lumding-Badarpur section of the NF Railway is the most vital link of Cachar, Mizoram and Tripura with the rest of the country. The line is one of the most challenging accomplishments of engineering and runs in hilly terrain of North Cachar Hills under adverse climatic conditions. It has 36 tunnels in its way and is certainly a treat for any travel enthusiast. Apart from the goods train, two express train service namely Barak Express and Cachar Express also connects Cachar with Guwahati via Lumding.
Air Way:-
The only airport of Cachar District is located at Kubhirgram which is approximately 30 k.m. away from Silchar. Indian Airlines and Air Deccan run daily flights from Silchar to Kolkata, Guwahati, Imphal, Aizwal and Agartala. However for detailed schedules please visit respective airlines website. Apart from this chartered helicopter service is also available.
